» "Chasing Rainbows" (3:30 p.m., Made in Hawaii): A documentary chronicling the political and social battle between the evangelical church and the gay movement in Hawaii.

» "The Star and the Sea" (6 p.m., Gala Presentation): A moving portrayal of renowned Chinese composer Xian Xinghai’s rise to fame, from his impoverished childhood in Macau to the blossoming of his talent in Singapore. Cast member Vivian Hsu will be in attendance, and co-director Guiyun Xiao will receive the festival’s Career Achievement Award.

» "Conviction" (6 p.m., Gala Presentation): Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell star in the drama, based on a true story, of a woman’s dedication and 18-year quest to overturn the murder conviction of her older brother.

» "Gerrymandering" (6:30 p.m., Real Life): Director Jeff Reichert accompanies his well-received documentary of how politicians try to manipulate the outcome of elections by redrawing voting districts. (Due to tonight’s sold-out screening, an additional screening has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday.)

» "Regeneration" (6:30 p.m., Halekulani Golden Orchid Award Documentary Nominee): This film is "about the state of the apathetic youth generation," says film programmer Anderson Le. "It’s a call to arms, with a round-table discussion and interviews with students combined with the reflections of activists of previous generations."

» "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest" (9:30 p.m., EuroCinema Hawaii): The adaptation of the last of Steig Larsen’s "Millennium Trilogy" that once again stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist as the crusading computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and reporter Mikael Blomkvist. While Mikael is trying to prove Lisbeth’s innocence in three murders, she’s plotting her own revenge against the corrupt government institutions that nearly destroyed her life.

» "Sound of Noise" (10:45 p.m., Sound x Vision): Le calls this "a quirky and well-made film" about "a band of Swedish renegade drummers who go head-to-head with a tone-deaf police investigator."
