Earthquake hits off Japanese coast; no tsunami warning issued
TOKYO >> A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Monday in the Pacific Ocean off southern Japan, but there were no reports of damage or injury.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck at 10:28 p.m. in Tokyo (3:28 a.m. Hawaii time), 200 miles southwest of Naha on Okinawa island at a depth of 22 miles. The epicenter was around the Ryukyu Islands.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an alert for a mild tsunami for nearby islands, but lifted it 45 minutes later.
