Boy Scouts of America

COURTESY BOY SCOUTS COUNCIL
Scouts lined up for the awards presentation following the 1935 Makahiki at the old Honolulu Stadium at South King and Isenberg streets. The first scout in line was James Redmon. Next in line was Thurston Twigg-Smith, president and publisher of the Honolulu Advertiser from 1961 to 1993.

Scouts were champions of environmental stewardship long before "green" became a popular term. They practice the Leave No Trace virtues: to protect and preserve the environment and to "leave it better than found." Leave No Trace promotes outdoor ethics, environmental awareness and attitude rather than a set of rules. It applies in the back yard, local parks and back country — wherever our Scouts are present.
