U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has announced Hawaii will receive $39 million to support education jobs in the islands.

Duncan said Thursday in a news release issued in Washington that the money will help Hawaii keep thousands of teachers working in the classroom this school year.

The money is part of a $10 billion education fund that will support education jobs across the country in the current school year.

The money is being distributed to states by a formula based on population figures. States can distribute their funding to school districts based on their own primary funding formula or the districts’ relative share of federal Title I funds.
