City, federal and Army firefighters today resumed battling a wild fire that broke out yesterday at the Army’s Makua Military Reservation.

The fire was last reported to be burning more than 200 acres over an area more than a mile long and heading north up steep mountain cliffs, according to the Army.

It began after 2 p.m. Saturday about one-quarter of a mile north of the Makua reservation entry gate off Farrington Highway. 

The cause remains unknown but Army officials said no training occurred Saturday.

The Army canceled a cultural access event today because of the fire, which drew four helicopters and more than 50 firefighters from the Honolulu and federal fire departments and the Army.
