Public views sought on school leader
The state Board of Education is asking the public to take an online survey about what qualities a schools superintendent should have.
The board is currently looking for a new superintendent to replace Pat Hamamoto, who resigned at the end of last year. Kathryn Matayoshi is currently filling in as interim superintendent.
The position leads the nation’s only statewide school district.
The survey asks a number questions, including whether it is important that a superintendent have previous experience managing large budgets and working with the state Legislature.
The board is accepting survey responses through July 31. The survey can be found at the board’s website, www.hawaiiboe.net.
