Hawaii’s largest bank is saying it hasn’t taken a position on a civil unions measure pending on Gov. Linda Lingle’s desk.

The June 18 letter from Executive Vice President Brandt Farias was released yesterday by groups supporting the bill, which would allow same-gender couples to form civil unions.

Two dozen prominent Hawaii firms have sent similar letters to Lingle and bill supporters after the Hawaii Business Roundtable on June 4 asked the governor to veto the measure.

The group has since written another letter to Lingle stressing its neutrality on the issue.

Lingle has until July 6 to sign or veto the House Bill 444, or allow it to become law without her signature.
