Maui ends search for snorkeler

The Maui Fire Department ended a search yesterday for a missing Colorado woman who was last seen snorkeling in the area known as Black Rock in Kaanapali, a Maui spokeswoman said.

A search mission was launched Thursday after Tina Fox was reported missing about 3 p.m.

After four days of searching, no signs of the woman were found, said Mahina Martin, Maui County spokeswoman. A fire helicopter took off at daylight yesterday and followed the currents in a northerly direction from where Fox was last seen.

The Coast Guard suspended its search Saturday night after scouring the ocean for 50 continuous hours and covering 380 square miles.

 

Wounded hunter flown to Oahu

A Mountain View man, shot in an apparent hunting accident Saturday on the Big Island, was flown to Oahu in critical condition, Big Island police said.

The man, who was hunting pig, was shot once near Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory in Keaau before 7 a.m., then stabilized at Hilo Medical Center, police said.

He was then flown to a hospital on Oahu in critical condition.

The case remains under investigation.

 

Hunt continues for Waialua robber

A 65-year-old Waialua resident was held up at gunpoint in his own home Wednesday night and police are looking for the suspect.

Police said a man, described as being in his 30s or 40s, entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked door. The suspect entered the victim’s bedroom, pointed a beige handgun at the Waialua resident and demanded money, police said.

The suspect left with $50, police said.

 

Girl awakens to find man on her bed

A 15-year-old girl woke up to find an unknown man sitting next to her on her bed yesterday morning in Kalihi, police said.

When the girl screamed, the man left the house, and the girl awakened her 73-year-old father, who confronted the man outside, police said.

Officers arrested the man nearby about 9:45 a.m. on North School Street on suspicion of unauthorized entry into a dwelling.
