MUSKOGEE, Okla.>> A 45-foot section of the mast from the battleship USS Oklahoma is traveling from Pearl Harbor to Muskogee, Okla. to serve as a centerpiece of a building at a park.

Rick Dennis, the director of War Memorial Park, says the bent mast section, which is on loan from the U.S. Navy, is scheduled to arrive today at Tinker Air Force Base and should be in Muskogee by tomorrow or Wednesday.

The USS Oklahoma was sunk during the Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, killing 429 men. The ship later was raised and sold for scrap, but sank again in a storm while being towed from Hawaii to California in 1947.

The mast weighs more than 22,000 pounds. It was found during dredging operations around Pearl Harbor in 2006.
