The state Ethics Commission voted today to fire executive director Daniel Mollway after an investigative report raised questions about his work habits and management style.

 Maria Sullivan, the commission’s chairwoman, said the vote in executive session was a unanimous 5 to 0.

Associate executive director Susan Yoza will serve as interim executive director until the commission replaces Mollway.

Mollway, who has served as executive director for 24 years, said he is contemplating legal action to challenge his firing.

Mollway said the commission questioned his work habits in December, particularly his use of sick leave. In January, the commission urged him to resign or retire. He has been on paid leave since February.

 The commission’s investigative report found that Mollway did not engage in any misconduct but questioned whether the commission could function given Mollway’s detached management style.
