Stand-up paddlers compete in Waikiki this weekend
Hundreds of stand-up paddlers are competing in the Battle of the Paddle Hawaii contest in Waikiki this weekend.
Paddlers will be racing from Duke Kahanamoku Beach to Fort DeRussy today and tomorrow.
Participants will be able to compete for $25,000 in prize money.
Organizers also plan to offer free stand-up paddling lessons for children and free demonstrations for the public.
More than 200 people are currently entered in the competition.
Top racers include 2009 Battle of the Paddle California champion Jamie Mitchell of Australia and OC1 champion Danny Ching of Redondo Beach, Calif.

Hawaii’s Morgan Hoesterey, who paddled 70 miles from Oahu to Kauai last month, will also be there.
