Georgette intensified into a category 2 hurricane and Tropical Storm Frank was just below hurricane strength late this morning in the East Pacific.
At 11 a.m. Georgette had maximum sustained winds of 105 mph about 1,125 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, moving west-northwest at 10 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Georgette could become a major category 3 storm on Monday, but is expected to weaken into a tropical depression as it crosses into the Central Pacific at the end of the week.
Farther east, Tropical Storm Frank had sustained winds of 70 mph, just below hurricane strength of 74 mph, 280 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, moving west at 5 mph, as of 5 p.m. Hawaii time, according to the hurricane center. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles from Frank’s center.
Like Georgette, Frank is expected to weaken to a tropical depression by the end of the week as it continues on a westward path.
