That I am driven with a passion and love of this aina to do what is right for the people of Hawaii. I believe that we must all come together as one people and one voice so that those in office will take notice and start working for the people.

What makes you qualified to be mayor?

Hopefully, it is not overly idealistic to state that my aloha for Honolulu and its people should qualify me above all else. My array of life experiences, my motivation to serve the people and nothing more, and my dedication to doing what is ethically right qualify me for this office.

What is your one big idea?

To reconnect with the people by creating “A Day With the People.” Two Saturdays a month, the mayor will go to the different communities and get to know the people, discuss the community’s needs and learn about each other. They will do this Hawaiian style with potlucks.

What steps should elected city officials take next regarding the rail project?

The rail must stop at Middle Street. From here we must come together as a city to decide what our next steps must be. The bleeding of the taxpayer must stop. We need to come up with innovative ways to deal with the rail and our horrendous traffic problem.

Why has the city not been able to take more homeless off the street, and what would you do to improve the situation?

The city has done poorly because it is tackling this as one problem. Homelessness is a variety of problems which must be attacked from different avenues. We must start with affordable housing and admit that it is society that creates homelessness. Then can we move forward.

What steps can elected officials take to ensure city employees behave ethically?

Elected officials must set the example by leading the way. Employees will always follow the lead of their employers. If we have unethical and corrupt leaders, then the employees themselves will become like their leaders. We lead by example.

As an elected city official, what would you do to improve the city’s affordable housing supply?

To tackle affordable housing we must close the loopholes in the laws, and we must bring everyone to the table. That means the armed services, Realtors, contractors, developers, state and city must come to an agreement that works best for the people of Hawaii.
