Evening in Town for the Country at Mahina & Sun’s

Waikiki’s Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club was the site of a benefit on Saturday for the North Shore Community Land Trust, which seeks to protect and preserve North Shore areas. Food was provided by Mahina & Sun's, with music from Johnny Helm and Kawika Kahiapo. See gallery

Kapono and Friends at the Waikiki Shell

Henry Kapono brought the popular tunes of Cecilio & Kapono back to life at the Waikiki Shell on Saturday, with help from Kalapana, Jerry Santos, Keola Beamer, Amy Hanaiali‘i, Na Leo Pilemehana, Brother Noland, Robi Kahakalau, Alx Kawakami, Josh Tatofi and Kalani Pe‘a. Mililani High School held it its Homecoming Parade on Saturday. The Trojans football team, cheerleading squad and homecoming court led the way from Town Center of Mililani to the school’s stadium, where the team was to take on Campbell that evening. See gallery

Sunset Mele and Night Market at the Hawai‘i Convention Center

The Hawaii Convention Center hosted a family friendly night of music on Sept. 14 with entertainment by former “American Idol” contestant DeAndre Brackensick and musicians Evan Khay, Keilana, Izik, Mango Season and Ho‘okena. “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” which was filmed in Hawaii, was also screened, while a pop-up market featured items from local food and retail vendors. The Blaisdell Exhibition Hall played host to sewing, quilting and crafts exhibits for the three-day Hawaii Woman Expo last weekend. Former “American Idol” contestant Jordan Segundo and the popular Celebrities and Their Pets Fashion Show entertained the crowd. See gallery

Razed in Black at NextDoor

Razed in Black gave its first concert in Hawaii in 15 years on Saturday at NextDoor in Chinatown. Known for its Goth-industrial sound, Razed in Black was started in 1994 by Ewa Beach native Romell Regulacion and became the most successful group of its kind from Hawaii, with credits on movie, television and video game scores. DJs Nocturna, Du Nord and Nightfox and exotic entertainers also performed. See gallery

Professionals and amateurs in both still and video photography got together for workshops and to learn about new products and technologies and advanced techniques at the Pikake Room at the Blaisdell Center last weekend during the first Photocon Hawaii convention. See gallery

Little League World Series Victory Parade

Little Leaguers from the urban Honolulu team that won the 2018 Little League World Series celebrated with a victory parade on Saturday, marching from Tamarind Park downtown to Honolulu Hale, where the young stars were greeted with music, refreshments and admiring fans. See gallery

Celebrate the Arts at Sun Yat Sen Park

Chinatown brought artists, prospective artists and art lovers together on Saturday at Sun Yat Sen Park for the Celebrate the Arts Festival. The event featured artist demonstrations and make-and-take art opportunities, with entertainment by Every Single Day and Maikapu‘uwai. The nearby Arts at Marks Garage also held a Second Saturday event called Connect, featuring a pop-up art gallery, books and vinyls for sale, and music by Trisha Haugen, Amy Yamashiro and Blair Langston. Greenroom Festival Hawaii 2018

The Greenroom Festival, which advocates beach conservancy and ocean awareness, brought international and local entertainers to the Waikiki Shell for a two-day entertainment extravaganza last weekend. Local performers Mike Love, Anuhea and Makua Rothman joined Los Angeles-based Allah-Las and Australian rockers The Babe Rainbow on stage for the Sept. 7 show, with Japanese bands and Streetlight Cadence performing the next evening. RumFire at the Sheraton Waikiki celebrated its 10th anniversary on Sunday with a day of music from the Christian Yrizarry Duo, Makua Rothman and Thomson Enos, and the Typical Hawaiians with Chief Ragga. DJ Stephanie Loyaza closed out the night. See gallery

Na Palapalai Reunion at Hawaii Theatre

Remembrance was the theme at the Na Palapalai reunion concert on Sunday, when Kuana Torres Kahele, Kehau Tamure and Keao Costa reunited for a second night at the Hawaii Theatre, bringing dancers who have held the Miss Aloha Hula title along to the thrills of the crowd. See gallery

Breakdancers and their fans were at the Melting Pot 2, a hip-hop event at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Campus Center Ballroom on Saturday. Local band Good Foot provided the music for the competition, held for b-boys and b-girls in solo and team formats. See gallery

Kaneohe Music Fest 2018 at Kaneohe Higashi Hongwanji

Kaneohe Higashi Hongwanji Mission took tunes to the Windward Side on Saturday with the Kaneohe Music Festival, featuring local bands Ten Feet, City Boys, Two Shades of Blue, The Four Treasures and more. The event raised funds for Holomua Na Ohana Weinberg Village in Waimanalo, which provides housing for homeless children. See gallery

Made in Hawaii Festival 2018 at Blaisdell Center

The Made in Hawaii Festival brought local food products, books, gifts, apparel and jewelry, arts and crafts to the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall and Arena last weekend. More than 400 vendors brought their wares to show to visitors, who could also enjoy entertainers like Henry Kapono performing songs from his Cecilio and Kapono days with artists of the new generation.
