Toys for Tots at Hawaii Theatre

The Marine Corps Pacific Band lent a hand to local needy children with its annual Toys for Tots concert at Hawaii Theatre on Sunday. Guests were asked to bring new, unwrapped toys to be distributed in the local community. See gallery

Hawaiian Mission Houses Holiday Craft Fair 2018

The Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives held its 47th annual Holiday Craft Fair on Nov. 24, billing it as “Hawaii’s oldest” fair. Only made-in-Hawaii items were featured, such as glass artwork, jewelry, pottery, woodwork and silk scarves. Neighboring Kawaiahao Church held its own fair as well, giving shoppers a double dose of local holiday cheer. See gallery

Liliha/Palama Christmas Parade 2018

The Liliha/Palama area caught on to the early holiday season with its annual Christmas Parade on Nov. 23. Miss Chinatown Hawaii 2019 Brooke Lynn Alcuran, Miss Hawaii Chinese 2019 Ivonne Lee and Miss Chinese Jaycees 2019 Danicia Honda joined the festivities, which went from United Church of Christ to Kohou Street. Turkey Trot at Kapiolani Park

Runners hoping to build up an Thanksgiving appetite charged through a 10-mile Turkey Trot on Thursday that started at Kapiolani Park. The race awarded those who finished closest to their predicted finish times, giving those training for a full marathon some insight into their pacing. See gallery

Miss Hawaii USA 2019 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center

Six months of hard work paid off for Lacie Choy as she was crowned Miss Hawaii USA 2019 Sunday night at the Hawai‘i Convention Center. Competing as Miss Waikiki USA, the 20-year-old University of Hawaii at Manoa student beat 24 other contestants to become the 57th woman to hold the title of Miss Hawaii USA since 1962. See gallery

Armistice Day Centennial, Veterans Day Commemoration in Waikiki

Waikiki paid tribute to our military veterans on Sunday with a combination Armistice Day Centennial and Veterans Day Commemoration. Music ranging from live bagpipers to performances by the Marine Forces Pacific Band, Raiatea Helm and the Harry James Orchestra, along with a WWI film festival and fireworks entertained the crowd. Taste of Waipahu at August Ahrens Elementary School

The Central Oahu community put its best foot forward with its 13th annual Taste of Waipahu, featuring food-eating contests, rides and games. A hip-hop dance event had the crowd at August Ahrens Elementary School grooving along with the music. See gallery

First Friday at the Hawaii State Art Museum

At the Hawaii State Art Museum, a wide range of work was on display during First Friday on Nov. 2, including artwork by Lori Uyehara, Lynda Hess and Masami Teraoka as well as from Hawaii Craftsmen artists Patti Johnson and Daven Hee. Designers Matt Bruening and Rumi Murakami also displayed their latest fashions at HiSam’s Museum Gallery Shop x Mori by Art + Flea. See gallery
