Victoria Budiono

Victoria Budiono is a general assignment reporter at the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, she graduated from Jakarta Intercultural School in 2020, where she served as editor-in-chief of the school paper, Feedback Magazine, for two years. Budiono moved to Honolulu in 2020 to pursue higher education and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and psychology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2023. She was the 2023 recipient of the Carol Burnett Award for Responsible Journalism, recognizing her commitment to high ethical standards in the field. While a student, Budiono received first place in the Society of Professional Journalists Hawaii chapter’s Student Feature Reporting in Any Media category during her internship at Hawaii Business Magazine. She also worked as an SPJ intern at Honolulu Civil Beat, where she covered the Aug. 8 Maui wildfires, contributing to the team's selection as a Pulitzer Prize finalist for Breaking News Reporting. In addition, she won three SPJ awards in the Breaking News category in 2023. Before joining the Honolulu Star-Advertiser as a general assignment reporter, Budiono served as the Capitol Bureau intern and gained experience interning and freelancing for other notable media outlets, including Honolulu Civil Beat, Hawaii Business and Honolulu Magazine.
