STARADVERTISER / DECEMBER 21, 1947

Opening up a new vista, this new downtown street connecting Hotel Street with King Street, South Street and Kapiolani Boulevard at Advertiser Square is scheduled to open with a ceremony led by Mayor John H. Wilson. (The street, which ran through what is now the Honolulu Municipal grounds, no longer exists.)

When it rains, it pours into the kindergarten classroom at Aliiolani School, and teacher Lillie Kekauoha calls a halt to classes while the children mop up the mess. Kekauoha says she has requested for the past three years that repairs be made to the roof.
