Bicyclist critically injured in collision with vehicle on Kalakaua Avenue in Ala Moana area
A 52-year-old bicyclist was critically injured this morning when she was struck by a car on Kalakaua Avenue in the Ala Moana area.
Honolulu police said the woman was crossing Kalakaua westbound toward Fern Street against a “red palm signal” when she was struck by a Mazda car driven by a 59-year-old woman traveling southbound on Kalakaua at 6:29 a.m.
Emergency Medical Services personnel responded, treated the bicyclist and took her to a hospital in critical condition. She was not wearing a helmet and had possible head injuries, police said.
Drugs and alcohol were not factors on the part of the driver, but it is unknown if they were factors for the bicyclist, police said. Speed was not a factor
Police closed all lanes of Kalakaua Avenue at the scene after the crash as they responded and investigated.
