Moped rider, 72, dies from injuries suffered in collision on Maui
A 72-year-old moped rider has died from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision in Kihei Thursday.
He was identified as Victor Roob of Kihei, Maui police said.
The deadly collision occurred at the intersection of Piilani Highway and Mikioi Place just after 6 p.m.
Police said a 2015 Mercedes Benz operated by a 47-year-old Kihei woman was traveling south on the highway and attempted to execute a left turn onto Mikioi Place when the vehicle collided with a Genuine moped operated by Roob.
The moped was traveling north on the highway within a marked bicycle lane at the time of the collision.
Police said Roob was initially taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. While at the hospital, his condition deteriorated and he later died from his injuries.
