Maui police arrest Missouri man at airport for quarantine violations
Maui police have arrested a Missouri man for violating quarantine rules after he arrived at Kahului Airport without a negative COVID-19 test or a valid place of lodging.
At about 7 p.m. Tuesday, Maui police arrested Matthew Tittor, 42, at the airport for violating quarantine as well as contempt of court.
Police said Tittor flew to Maui from Los Angeles two hours earlier without a negative, COVID-19 test as required through the Safe Travels Hawaii program, which would have allowed him to bypass the mandatory quarantine. Nor did he have a required, valid place of lodging for his self-quarantine.
After further checks, police discovered that Tittor also had a contempt of court bench warrant.
Maui police said Tittor indicated today he would voluntarily return to Los Angeles. The Prosecuting Attorney’s office and other agencies coordinated Tittor’s return flight to the U.S. mainland later today.
