The Honolulu Star-Advertiser newsroom has been selected along with more than 60 others across the country for next year’s Report for America national service program.
Report for America places journalists into local newsrooms to report on undercovered issues and communities, and is an initiative of the nonprofit media organization, The GroundTruth Project.
The Star-Advertiser will host a Report for America journalist who will cover ethnic and cultural affairs in Hawaii.
Report for America organizations will number more than 200 in 2021, and with its new news organizations selected, the program now has begun accepting applications through Jan. 31 from interested journalists.
“Report for America provides a unique opportunity for journalists to really sink their teeth into local, issue-oriented reporting that is missing from so many newsrooms today,” said Norman Parish, recruitment director, Report for America. “Beyond talented reporters and photojournalists, we are looking for individuals who see journalism as a public service and want to make a difference within their communities.”
Reporters join their respective newsrooms June 1.
