3 injured, 1 critically, in Pearl City warehouse fire
One person suffered severe burns and two others were injured in a fire that trapped them in a Pearl City warehouse Saturday night, but firefighters were successful in breaking into the building and rescuing them.
A man was taken to Straub’s Burn Unit in critical condition and two women were taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
“A neighbor who was on the phone with one of the trapped occupants notified HFD of their exact location,” HFD said in a news release.
Along with saving three humans, firefighters also rescued a dog and a cat using a thermal imaging camera.
The building at 96-1272 Waihona Street was engulfed in flames and heavy smoke when the first firefighters arrived at 8:57 p.m. Saturday.
Firefighters brought the fire under control by 9:48 p.m. and extinguished it by 11:41 p.m. A total of 50 fire personnel in 14 units were sent to the scene.

The fire remains under investigation; a damage estimate has not yet been released.
According to HFD, the building did not have fire sprinklers and it is not clear if it had working smoke detectors.
