Hawaii island police seek suspect after man, 24, shot in Papaikou
Hawaii island police are seeking a male suspect after a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times in Papaikou Wednesday.
South Hilo patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of the Papaikou Transfer Station on the Old Mamalahoa Highway shortly after 1 p.m.
Two men reported being shot at by a male suspect who fled in a vehicle before officers arrived.
Police said the 24-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Hilo Medical Center where he underwent surgery. He is listed in stable condition.
The other victim, 50, did not sustain any injuries.
Police have opened a first-degree attempted murder investigation into the shooting.
