The Merrie Monarch Festival hula competition, canceled last April, is determined to have one in 2021, even if the usual sell-out audience isn’t invited.
In deference to the coronavirus pandemic, the organizers are developing proposals for an event meeting COVID-19 protocols, a plan to be decided after Mayor-elect Mitch Roth takes office. If it’s in the partially open-air Kanaka‘ole Stadium, that could help.
And perhaps streaming it, with online donations accepted, could help the nonprofit, too.
