Police open murder investigation after Liliha death
Honolulu police have opened a murder investigation after the death of a man in Liliha early today.
The deadly assault occurred in the driveway of an apartment complex at 1438 Liliha St. across from the Liliha Square Shopping Center at about 1:20 a.m.
Lt. Deena Thoemmes of the Honolulu Police Department’s Homicide Detail said the victim — described to be in his late 50s — was outside of his apartment and saw the suspect walking by the driveway.
The two men got involved in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation, Thoemmes said.
At some point, the victim started walking away from the suspect who then headed makai on Liliha Street, Thoemmes said.
He said the victim sustained injuries in the altercation and later collapsed.

Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and found the man in cardiac arrest.
Paramedics treated the man at the scene and transported him to The Queen’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today to determine the exact cause of death. Positive identification is pending.
Police are looking for a suspect described to be a man in his 20s to 30s, between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 8 inches with a medium build.
He was wearing a multi-colored jacket, dark-colored shorts and slippers at the time of the alleged assault.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call police.
