Breezy tradewinds to cool off Hawaiian islands
Easterly tradewinds are expected to return tonight, bringing less humidity and cooler temperatures, forecasters said, as a low pressure system northwest of the islands moves away from the state.
The National Weather Service expects the breezy tradewinds and cooler temperatures to last through the middle of next week.
Today’s forecast ranges from partly sunny to mostly sunny, with scattered windward and mauka showers, and high temperatures from 86 to 91 degrees. Tonight is expected to be cloudy, with lows from 70 to 75. Tradewinds will be from 10 to 20 mph through tonight.
North Shore surf will hold at 8 to 12 feet today but is to fall to at 6 to 8 feet Saturday. Surf on western shores will be at 5 to 7 feet, falling to 4 to 6 feet Saturday; south shore surf will drop from 4 to 6 feet today to 3 to 5 feet Saturday; while eastern shore waves will ramp up due to the increasing winds, from 2 to 4 feet today to 3 to 5 feet Saturday, forecasters said.
A small craft advisory remains in effect for Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, leeward and southeast Hawaii island waters, with east winds of 15 to 25 knots, through 6 p.m. Sunday.
