A flood advisory for the entire island Kauai is in effect to 11 p.m. tonight.

A flood advisory for Kauai has been extended until 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Heavy rainfall has decreased over the central and southern parts of the island but an additional rainfall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour is approaching the island from the west and southwest.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the island of Kauai, effective until 2:30 p.m. today.

At 11:34 a.m., radar indicated heavy rain over central and southeastern portions of Kauai. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Officials warned that mountain rainfall will make its way downstream soon.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Lihue, Kapaa, Kalaheo, Kekaha, Princeville, Kilauea, North Fork, Wailua Trails, Lawai, Omao, Kokee State Park, Wailua Homesteads, Hanalei, Hanapepe, Wainiha, Na Pali State Park, Koloa, Haena, Waimea, Wailua and Poipu.

Forecasters said winds will shift, and come from the southeast for the rest of the week as a cold front approaches from northwest of Kauai.

The front, along with other systems, bring an increased chance of rain for the western isles, particularly over Kauai, along with a slight chance of thunderstorms.

Conditions for Maui County and Hawaii island remain more stable, other than a few passing showers along southeast facing slopes.

Today’s forecast for Kauai includes increasing showers throughout the day, and scattered showers for Oahu, Maui County and Hawaii island.

Highs range from 84 to 91 degrees Fahrenheit today and dip to 70 to 75 tonight. Southeast trades range from 5 to 15 mph.

Surf along north shores, meanwhile, will remain elevated, at 7 to 10 feet, just below high surf advisory thresholds through Thursday due to a northwest swell. Surf along west shores is expected to remain at 4 to 6 feet today through Thursday.

The swell will slowly decrease today, but another northwest swell arrives this afternoon and Thursday.

Surf along south shores rises from 3 to 5 feet today to 4 to 6 feet Thursday due to long-period forerunners of a late-season south swell at the buoy south of Lanai. Surf on east shores remains at 2 to 4 feet through Thursday.

The first record high of November was set on Tuesday in Kahului, Maui. A record high of 93 degrees at Kahului broke the old record of 91 set for that day in 1968 and 1996.

Eastern trades are expected to return Saturday, and breezy trades make a comeback on Sunday.
