Everything old is new again — and that’s just fine with Campbell High School math teacher Wesley Adkins, who just won $25,000 to create an Ewa Beach drive-in cinema.
The Education Innovation Teacher Challenge grant, from Farmers Insurance Hawaii and the Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation, will enable Adkins to work with students to create the drive-in, teaching them skills ranging from engineering the movie screen, to creating films, to developing business plans and computer apps. The drive-in concept might be nostalgic, but all the valuable skills learned can only propel the kids back to the future.
