Beach projects advance during Waikiki downturn

While Waikiki is shutdown, several construction projects, including several to address its famous beaches, are moving ahead. The state has given a contractor the notice to proceed on the $2 million Royal Hawaiian groin replacement and Waikiki Beach Special Improvement District is working to get a $2 million replenishment project rolling that would replace 12,000 cubic square feet of sand at the manmade beach. An EIS for a $10 million master plan is underway.
