Pearlridge Center shuts down, Ala Moana Center to close this afternoon, due to coronavirus concerns
Pearlridge Center in Aiea closed its doors Monday in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
“In recognition of the need to address the spread of COVID-19, Pearlridge Center will be closed until further notice, effective today at 11 a.m.,” the center, owned by Washington Prime Group Inc., said in a news release.
Exceptions include restaurants with carry-out, or delivery services with exterior-facing entrances that offer essential goods and services to the community. Additional exceptions include healthcare services, grocery stores and banks with exterior entrances.
“Pearlridge Center’s top priority is protecting the health and safety of its guests, retailers and employees,” the mall said.

Ala Moana Center, Hawaii’s largest shopping center, issued a statement saying that all of its non-essential businesses would cease operations after 4:30 p.m. today.

“Following the Order of the Office of the Mayor City and County of Honolulu Emergency Order No. 2020-02 (“the Order”), as of 4:30 p.m. on March 23, 2020, all non-Essential Businesses are required to temporarily cease operations, and all restaurants and other facilities that prepare and serve food can operate but for delivery or carry out only,” said the center in a statement. “We expect all Ala Moana Center tenants to comply.”
The center, which shortened its hours last week, said it anticipated the food court would remain open for carryout and delivery services, but that sitting there would no longer be permitted. All other interior common areas in the mall will be closed.
“We’ve been closely monitoring the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic, and the well-being of our community is paramount,” said the center in a statement. “We appreciate the understanding and support of the community during this challenging time.”

Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki will be closed to the public from today through April 30. Royal Hawaiian Center’s restaurants are open for curbside pick-up and delivery services only. ABC Store will also be open from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. until further notice.
