The crowds have thinned out in Waikiki as of late. But locals and tourists were still around on Saturday, spending an afternoon outdoors.
A man carried a boy on his shoulders in the waters of Waikiki on Saturday. Tourists milled the beaches but the crowd was slower than earlier this week due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kayla Buckingham, Heather Hanson and Quin Thomas shared laughs together after surfing in Waikiki. The friends, all in their early twenties, work in tourism industry jobs in the area. Buckingham and Hanson were both laid off within the last two days and Thomas is currently working hard to keep his.
“I’m choosing not to worry about it. We’re going to have some fun and make the best out of this situation,” said Hanson.

Taylor Akana sold hotdogs at “John’s World Famous Hotdogs” near Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon in Waikiki on Saturday. Although sales were still bumping along Akana said it has slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

The Towers family sat on the beach to eat their take-away dinner in Waikiki on Saturday. The family is visiting Oahu from Memphis, Tenn., where Arth, left, works as a research chemist and Tomeka, center, is an RN and respiratory therapist. “I decided to take a break before all the mayhem,” said Tomeka who will be returning home to battle COVID-19. Also pictured is their daughter Johanna, 10.

Katrina Kroetch juggled at the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon in Waikiki on Saturday. She is currently creating social media content since her work as a magician and performing artist has dried up due to the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
“In the last week I’ve transitioned to all this social media stuff since it’s the only way to make money right now as an artist,” said Kroetch.
