Montana-based financial services firm D.A Davidson has ranked Bank of Hawaii No. 1 for environmental, social and governance among financial institutions in the country. Bankoh received the honor in D.A. Davidson’s inaugural Institutional ESG Research report, which was released Dec. 9.
Environmental, social and governance, or ESG, is a way to measure the sustainability and ethical practices of a company, and is commonly used by investors to evaluate and screen potential investments. D.A. Davidson said Bankoh “exemplifies a business with proper priorities and embodies a dedication to long-term, sustainable progress.”
D.A. Davidson also chose Bankoh as its top pick for good governance because the “proactive, yet conservative, nature of the bank has landed BOH an abundance of awards, including 4th among U.S. publicly traded financial institutions on Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies.”
“This recognition truly speaks to our firm belief in stewardship and service to the community and our customers, the financial health of the people we serve, while doing so in a socially conscious way,” Bankoh Chairman, President and CEO Peter Ho said.

Hawaiian first debuted service between Las Vegas and Honolulu in September 1985 and previously operated Maui-Las Vegas flights from October 2010 to October 2012. Hawaiian, which also offers up to three daily nonstop flights between Honolulu and Las Vegas with Airbus A330 aircraft, carried more than 470,000 guests between the two cities in 2018.
