Former University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

The 36-year-old was arrested at 6:50 p.m. in Kaneohe on a petty misdemeanor, and was released on $1,000 bail.

Brennan was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round of the NFL draft in 2008, but was released two years later.

The former star quarterback has had legal woes in the past.

In 2015, his attorney blamed a Nov. 19, 2010, vehicle crash on Hawaii island, for his memory problems, which led to allegedly filing a false police report that his vehicle was stolen.

In December 2016, the state dropped the case without prosecution, and it was dismissed.

In the 2010 crash, he was a passenger, and was hospitalized for eight days with head, rib and collarbone injuries.

In 2012, he was stopped in Kailua for speeding and police said he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.17, more than twice the legal limit. He pleaded guilty in July 2013 to driving under the influence of alcohol.

Brennan, who as a junior in 2006 broke the NCAA single-season record for touchdown passes with 58, decided to stay in school for his senior season rather than turn professional. It turned out to be a dream season as he led the June Jones-coached Warriors in 2007 to a school-record 12-0 regular season. Brennan also was named one of four finalists for the Heisman Trophy at the end of the season and finished third behind Florida’s Tim Tebow and Arkansas’ Darren McFadden. Missouri’s Chase Daniel was fourth.

But the storybook season ended when the team, ranked 10th in the Associated Press rankings, lost to the fifth-ranked University of Georgia 41-10 in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2, 2008.

Jones left shortly after that game to become the head coach at Southern Methodist University.
