Haleiwa’s Honolua Blomfield wrapped up her second longboard world championship Saturday, clinching the season-long points title by winning the Taiwan Open.
Going into Saturday’s final, the odds were stacked against Blomfield. To lock in the world title, she needed to not only win the event but also for Brazil’s Chloe Calmon to lose in the semifinals or earlier. Calmon’s 13.57 to 10.70 semifinal loss to France’s Alice Lemoigne opened the door and Blomfield walked through it by beating Lemoigne 12.17 to 11.97 in the final.
“I’m so stoked I don’t even know what to say,” said Blomfield, 20, who also won the world longboard crown in 2017.
