Man, 30, in critical condition after pedestrian accident by UH
Police have shut down a section of Dole Street by the University of Hawaii after a critical pedestrian accident.
A car struck two pedestrians near Sakamaki Hall on Dole Street around 11:15 a.m., according to a police report.
The driver of the car struck two pedestrians near the intersection of East-West Road and Dole Street before continuing townbound on Dole and coming to a stop about 200 yards later, according to UH spokesman Dan Mesienzahl. It was not clear why the driver did not immediately come to a stop, he said.
One of the pedestrians, a 30-year-old man and UH employee, was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to Honolulu Emergency Services Department. The other pedestrian, a UH student, refused treatment as did a third person involved in the crash.
Tire tracks showed the car struck a bollard along Dole Street, then drove up on the sidewalk before coming to a stop back on Dole Street.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to exit the campus via Maile Way.
