Autopsy shows that 4-year-old girl’s death in Puna was consistent with accidental stab wound
Hawaii island police said today an autopsy of a 4-year-old girl who died at her home Wednesday in Puna shows her death appears consistent with an accidental stab wound, according to the medical examiner’s preliminary findings.
However, the medical examiner deferred ruling on the manner of death pending additional analysis.
Detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section are continuing this investigation.
On Wednesday, Puna patrol officers responded to a call at 11:44 a.m. about the girl with an injury to her neck at a Hawaiian Beaches residence.
At the time of the incident, two male juveniles were cooking breakfast in the kitchen, according to Lt. Rio Amon-Wilkins in an interview with Hawaii News Now. There were no adults present. Amon-Wilkins said he believed the parents were at work.
When emergency responders arrived on the scene, a neighbor was performing CPR on the girl, who later died at Hilo Medical Center.
