Extensive menu eyed for Olympic Village
TOKYO >> Ramen, udon and takoyaki (octopus dumplings) will be served at the Olympic Village for the 2020 Tokyo Games. A special commission of the Tokyo Organizing Committee decided that many dishes popular among the Japanese will be included, in addition to 600 to 700 dishes that are standard fare in countries around the world.
According to the commission, the Olympic Village will have a main dining room and a casual dining room, which will allow players to eat in a relaxed setting after their events.
In the main dining room, in addition to dishes from various countries, food flavored neutrally with simply salt and pepper will also be served. Players will have access to more than 60 condiments, allowing them to season the dishes to suit their palates. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free foods will also be available.
The Japanese menu will be served mainly in the casual dining room.
A draft menu established in August will be approved by the International Olympic Committee this month.
