I was touched by the obituary for Kenneth Schneider (Star-Advertiser, Nov. 3). It was heartbreaking to hear about his journey with mental illness and the family’s inability to get him the help he needed, consequently forcing them to send him to live on the streets. They describe how he lived and died while homeless and lost, never receiving the help he really needed. The end of his obituary tells us that the next time we see a mentally ill person on the street, we now know why they are there.
I imagine that story was hard for the family to share, and it is such a shame to know he was one of thousands who need but do not receive help. To the family, I read the story. I appreciate you opening my eyes to the problem. May he rest in peace.
