The Thirty Meter Telescope protesters remind me of those who voted for Donald Trump: They knew they were being (striving for a polite word here) cheated, but they didn’t know who was doing it.
If the protesters thought carefully, they would blockade the Legislature for passage of a voter-owned elections law, and I would join them. As long as elections can be bought and sold, there is no hope for an honest discussion of Hawaii’s future.
Look. The first stop on the road to restoration of the Hawaiian constitutional monarchy must be to make Hawaii pono as a state.
If we cannot find our way to being pono as a state, how can we be pono as a nation?
And if we cannot be pono as a nation, then what is the point of restoration?
Harassing astronomers, who do little harm and much good, is not the road to restoration.
