The protesters at Mauna Kea are going a step too far in their plan to protest at the Redwood City home of contributors to the foundation that has helped fund the Thirty Meter Telescope (“Protesters plan to gather outside TMT backer’s California home,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 12). Maybe it’s time for the majority of the people in Hawaii who support the TMT to start demonstrating at the homes of the protesters.
The idea that a very small minority of people can hold the rest of the state (and country) hostage in their illicit bid for power is really disgusting. They are violating the express orders of King Kamehameha II in using the religion that he, Queen Keopuolani and Queen Kaahumanu outlawed, as an excuse for their actions. If the old order were still in place, I suspect they would be given short shrift, not parades on Hawaii’s roads and freeways.
