I completely agree with Nicholas Blank (“We should join efforts to clean up our planet,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Sept. 11), except to say that the situation is far, far worse than a dirtied mud puddle.

At the latest count I can find, there are about 80,000 new industrial chemicals and products that are unnatural and mostly unregulated. Many of these are poisoning the environment and, of course, ourselves.

We have killed more than a few creatures: There is a species extinction wave competing with the last die-off that occurred when the dinosaurs were killed.

Nanoplastics are a new threat, just discovered to be entering into the cells of our bodies and creating clutter that cannot do anything but end badly.

It is very important to institute major change in a huge number of human endeavors, socially, economically, environmentally.
