Hawaii has some of the very best tap water in the world, so why the need for one-use plastic water bottles (“Council advances wide-ranging plastics ban,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 5)?
If keeping constantly hydrated is so important, then buy a permanent-use bottle, put your name on it, and keep it handy.
If the state is in peril and water use might be compromised, then buy a case of water.
Growing up here, I found there were lots of water fountains in schools and office buildings that seemed to quench the thirst of the populace just fine. Team parents for kids’ sports teams can easily buy a big Igloo jug with a spigot, plus substantial rugged cups that would be used for the season. Kudos to the Outrigger Reef hotel — it uses biodegradable containers and cutlery for leftovers. It can be done!
