Another reason to get rid of the Electoral College immediately is a ruling by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that lets an elector choose to vote for whomever he or she wants regardless of the winner of the popular vote in that state (“Ruling lets Electoral College members choose preference,” Star-Advertiser, Aug. 23).
Back in 2016, an elector in Colorado voted for John Kasich, a Republican, even though the state was won by Hilary Clinton. His vote was canceled by the state and he was replaced by another elector. But the court said the state had no right to interfere with an elector who votes for the candidate of their choice.
This is so alarming. Why is this not headlined and why are candidates not actively pushing to get rid of the Electoral College once and for all? Do the Democrats really care? What is happening to democracy?
