Don’t you dare extend the Nanakuli landfill (“Dust-up in Nanakuli,” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 3)!
Enough is enough. Why does the entire island’s waste go to one spot on the island? Why are trash facilities not factored into growing neighborhoods such as the condo-littered Kakaako and the ever-growing Kailua? Who proudly states that a landfill is in their neighborhood?
Would they consider a landfill in majestic Manoa? Luxury Portlock? Postcard-favorite Diamond Head? Oh, heavens no! But add another 75 acres to the already overburdened relatively Hawaiian-populated Nanakuli?
Well, let’s consider that great idea. No! Move trash into your neighborhood. Why not? It came from your address.
