As someone who has lived in Hawaii only since 2010, I have tried to keep my opinions to myself as to how this state should be run. But the Mauna Kea dispute makes me have to say something.
I agree that everyone has the right to protest, but not at the expense of everyone else. Keep the protectors on the side of the road and not in the middle of it. If you are in the middle of the road, that is breaking the law and you should be arrested. But if you really believe in what you are doing, as soon as you get out of jail from being arrested, you will be right back in the middle of the road.
Then we will know how many people really believe in what they are fighting for and are not just up on the mountain trying to be a part of the movement.
