No more telescopes. Enough!
With the Daniel K. Inouye telescope on Haleakala, we have enough telescopes to enhance scientific research and education in Hawaii. The University of Hawaii’s astronomy program, with private investments in the existing telescopes, can continue its outstanding achievements. It is not imperative for Hawaii to be on the cutting edge in the search of black holes and outer-galactic bodies. We can learn from other institutions abroad possessing ultra-powerful telescopes.
Mauna Kea is a special place in retaining Hawaiian spiritual and cultural values. Respecting those values preserves the “soul of aloha” that makes Hawaii unique.
The ocean and aina are gifts for Hawaii. Preserving the fauna, flora and marine creatures in our biosphere should be our ultimate goal. These essentials are the core of our beliefs and earthly future concerns.
