The Rough Riders added to their undefeated record with a victory against the Falcons (2-2, 1-2) at home on Friday night.
“Defensively, we had a lot of key guys step up, like Aalona (Monteilh) and Shepard (Kekahuna),” Roosevelt coach Kui Kahoʻoilihala said. “Aalona is always out there working hard and he’s a kid who will do extra on the defensive side. I think we had a great game tonight.”
The Rough Riders (3-0, 3-0) opened with a bang after senior linebacker/slot Kekahuna returned the kickoff 90 yards for a TD. Senior RB Myka Kukahiwa later scored from the 2 for a 14-0 lead.
Roosevelt’s roughing the kicker penalty gave the Falcons a convenient first down, but Kalani sophomore QB Logan Lim had a pass intercepted by senior Isaac Kaleikau, who ran it back 30 yards for another Rough Riders TD and a 21-0 lead. Senior Chase Akana caught a 5-yard pass from Sky Ogata for Roosevelt’s fourth TD of the half, closing the second quarter with a 28-0 lead.
Rough Riders senior Scott Chung caught a 25-yard TD pass in the middle of the third quarter and Kukahiwa ran in his second TD of the night from 15 yards out.
Ogata finished the game 16-for-18 for 217 yards and two TDs.
