The narrow Beretania Street Bridge over Nuuanu Stream, built in 1933, is going to be replaced by a sixlane, $240,000 bridge which will open early next year. The new bridge will tie in with the Kukui Urban Renewal area. Beretania Street will be widened to six lanes on the downtown side of the bridge.

Gerry Jordan of AITS Inc. and contractor Richard L. Banks shake hands as they prepare for the demolition of a Waikiki landmark. The 50-year-old Aoki’s Market and adjoining buildings at Kalakaua and Ohua avenues are being torn down to make room for a 26-story hotel to be completed in 1970.
