The grievances the Mauna Kea protesters have with the state and federal governments go back more than 100 years. The canceling of the Thirty Meter Telescope project will not solve their grievances.
After the TMT is gone, they will be left with the same grievances. Nothing will change. However, Hawaii, Hawaii island, future generations and the rest of humanity will be denied all the benefits and discoveries that the TMT would bring.
The protesters need new leadership to move them forward into the future. They keep choosing leaders who keep them stuck in the past.
The Constitution guarantees everyone the right to free speech and the right to freely assemble. It does not give them the right to violate laws in the pursuit of these rights.
