The University of Hawaii Board of Regents on Friday took no action on a proposal to eliminate its Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics as part of a restructuring.

The board will consider it at a later meeting, possibly Aug. 22.

The proposal had recommended eliminating the athletics committee and incorporating its responsibilities with the Committee on Academic and Student Affairs.

The board has seven standing committees and was to have considered a proposal to reduce the number to five.

The proposal came in the wake of Act 172 from the recent Legislative session that requires the board to reduce the number of its members from 15 to 11.

The athletics committee was adopted in 2013 upon the recommendation of a board task group that saw the need for additional oversight of athletics following the Wonder Blunder, rising coaches salaries and department deficits.
